Zulu's new legs

Organized by Henna's Helping Hand

Wow! It's COLD!
Guess what??

I got my 4th leg a couple of weeks ago. I don't really like it much :(

When Dr. Hurley and my mom put in on me it felt funny and I didn't know what to do! Then Dr. Hurley told mom that it didn't fit very well so we had to send it back to Orthopets. (By the way, those people are WONDERFUL) they really care about me!

So anyway, I had to take another nap at the vets office while they casted my little leg again. Then they sent my fourth leg and the cast back to have it re-made. I hope when it comes back it fits better and doesn't hurt anymore!

Mom is glad they did it, but said that I'm an expensive little pup (but I'm not that little :P)

I love my new home and my moms and sisters, but this 'cold' situation is for the birds! I did see 'snow' for the first time and it was really wierd! It was sort of like rain because it came from the sky, but when it fell on me I didn't even feel it!

I did find out, though, that I could eat it. So that's what I've been doing.

Also...this business about Christmas. I have no idea what they are talking about! But my sisters keep finding colorful paper and tearing it up. They say that one of these times there will be yumyums in the paper. I can't wait!

Thanks for everything!

Love, Zulu

WE DID IT!
Thank you to everyone who made donations and helped spread the word about this miraculous little boy!

Yesterday, Zulu got his little leg casted for his prosthetic! Once the cast is sent to Ortho Pets, they will contact us with a quote and that is when we will pay for the prosthetic arm!

Even though our expenses are above what we have listed here on the chipin:

Brace: $610

Brace casting: $50

Prosthetic casting/including sedation: $135

Prosthetic: $1100

We are closing this method of donation!

Sarah will have some pitty paintings at the upcoming Brew City Bully events and those proceeds should cover the rest of any expenses for Zulu.

Any additional donations exceeding the amounts above will automatically be donated to the Brew City Bully Club.

Have a wonderful day knowing that you helped make a HUGE difference in the life of a very special animal.

We will see you soon!

Monica, Sarah & Zulu

Soooooo close!
Yay!

I'm so close to my goal and I just KNOW I'll make it there! I'm starting to really like that brace thing (look! there's a picture of me below!) I can run so fast. My sisters can't believe their eyes!

Today my mom said that she is going to take me for a walk outside of my yard! I can't wait to smell new smells!

Did you know that Oct 22nd is National Pitbull Awareness Day? I'm going to be at the Brew City Bully event this day for their Luv-a-bully march. I'm probably not going to march very far, but I will for SURE be at the celebration from 11am-1pm.

The event is at Wisconsin Avenue Park (10300 W. Wisconsin Ave, Milwaukee).

I hope I see EVERYONE there!

PS Look at my brace below!

Look at me!!
Hey everyone, Zulu here!

I really think I'm going to get my wish! Thank you so much to everyone, you are all so generous!

I'm doing so much better on my brace. This weekend I learned that I can run much, MUCH faster with it! It makes my foot feel better and my back too, since I can stand up straighter.

I'm pretty proud of myself, it hasn't even been a week yet and I can tell I'm doing so much better! Mom says that on Thursday I get to take a nap at the vet's office while they cast my little leg. I guess they will do that and then send it to the same place my brace came from. The she said that MAYBE by the end of October I will have ANOTHER LEG! Wow! I will have 4 legs just like my sisters!

I want to thank the BCBC for taking donations for me at the Milwaukee Harley Davidson Chili Cookoff Saturday. Rachel & Alexis and everyone else was so nice to me! I got a BUNCH of treats (but no chili).

I hope to see all of you soon!

~Zulu

Almost there!
Wow! I can't thank everyone enough for helping me get my new legs!!!!

I got my first leg this week (exactly 2 days, 9 hours and 11 minutes ago to be precise).

My new orthotic brace fits on what my mom calls my 'good' foot. I don't really know how good it is because it keeps hurting me when I play :(

But it's the one in the front that I can walk on, so I guess that IS good!

Mom and my vet lady, Dr. Hurley, put in on my leg and whoa....it was so heavy! It's kind of hard to get used to. I try to be a good boy about it, but it feels funny. Mom says that she is SO THANKFUL that we got the brace already because I guess my foot collapsed another 1/2 inch or so since we ordered it.

I don't know if I feel as thankful right now! I have had to learn to walk differently, but I'll get it down in no time.

Tomorrow I get to meet a bunch of really awesome people and eat chili at the Milwaukee Harley Davidson Chili Cookoff. (Mom told me no chili, though, on account of my backside being stinky....)

The AWESOME Brew City Bully Club entered "TEAM ZULU" just for MEEEEE! (I think the least they can do is give me some chili).

Anyway, I'm getting really close to my goal and when I get there, mom says that I will be fitted for my prosthetic leg. Then I will have to learn to walk like any other dog... ON FOUR LEGS!!

(Boy...my sisters aren't going to know what hit 'em)!

Thanks everyone for making this happen for me!

Sloppy Kisses,

Zulu

Hey! It's me, Zulu!
GUESS WHAT??

Mom says that next week I should get my FIRST brace for my front leg that I walk on. I hope I do! My foot hurts from trying to play with my sisters. I try to keep up with them, but they are so fast! And I have to rest sooo much in between our games (I think they are laughing at me!).

When I get my brace, mom says that I have to learn how to walk again on my foot. I don't really know what that means, but she is really excited so I'm excited too!

She also said that very soon I will get to see something called 'snow'! It sounds exciting! Because I grew up in Louisiana, I've never seen it before. She even bought me a warm coat to wear. She said that we really want to have my 2nd leg before it snows, though, so that I can learn to walk on it before it happens. Otherwise it will be hard to learn to walk in the snow and I will slip a lot.

She said that we can't get it until we have money to pay for it. (I told her I would share my food but she told me that my food wasn't money :/ )

Everyone is so nice here! I get lots of hugs and treats and I get to sleep on comfy pillows. (sometimes I even sneak on the big bed to cuddle with my spotted sister. But mom doesn't like that). They even call me my VERY OWN special name!

If there is any way you could help me get my 2nd new leg, I would be so thankful!

Even if you can't donate to my chip in, if you could spread the word I would be so grateful! Mom says I give good hugs and kisses (I'm quite proud of that!)

I hope sometime I can meet all the people who help me and show them my hugs & kisses!

Love,

Zulu

BCB
Thanks so much to the Brew City Bully Club for sharing Zulu's story at the 'Strut Your Mutt' event Sunday!

We appreciate everything you do!

Kisses from Zulu!

Zulu's New Legs
Zulu is a sweet 2 year old Pitbull with two front deformed legs. He is as sweet as can be and is so gentle and loves everyone. No one really knows much about it except that he was dropped off at a high kill shelter in Louisiana a few months ago and that they were told he was 'born that way' and he didn't have a name.

Some kind soul saw the sweetness in Zulu and found a rescue for him. After many weeks and foster homes, we brought Zulu to his forever home!

About a week ago, we had to take Zulu to the emergency vet - we didn't know what was wrong. The vet told us that he was in a LOT of pain - stemming from his one 'good' front leg. He was putting all of his muscly-pitbull weight on that 'good' deformed paw and it was just too much.

In order for Zulu to be pain-free, we need to have a custom orthotic brace made for his paw to help distribute the weight. And they also said that he would need a prosthetic leg on the small, unusuable paw.

We love Zulu, even though we have only known him for a few weeks and we really want to do this for him - to help him live a longer, happier life. We hope that you are willing to help :)
